Safeguarding

The members of the Congregation of Jesus (Loreto Sisters) English Province are committed to the Safeguarding Policies of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. In other words, they are committed to protect children, young people and adults at risk from neglect and self-neglect; physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual, organisational, material, psychological, financial, domestic or verbal abuse; behaviour which effectively results in modern day slavery or where there is evidence of discrimination or radicalisation; and to creating a safe and caring environment for all with whom they work.

In the event that there is abuse and mistreatment of these children, young people and adults at risk, the Congregation has clear procedures in place for dealing with complaints against a Sister, an employee or a volunteer. The Congregation will ensure that any allegations of abuse are promptly reported, that the statutory authorities which may become involved are given the fullest support and that the victims/survivors, the person against whom an allegation is made, will be listened to, and all involved given the appropriate support.

The Catholic Church in England & Wales has established new structures to take forward the work of safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk. These structures are explained below:

The Religious Life Safeguarding Service (RLSS) is a safeguarding body dedicated specifically to religious life in England and Wales. RLSS supports religious congregations, societies of apostolic life, and secular institutes in maintaining safe communities through robust safeguarding policies, survivor engagement, training, and good practice. It works in close collaboration with the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) to uphold a culture of safety and accountability.

The CJ (Loreto Sisters) English Province is a member of this service.

The Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) provides national oversight of safeguarding standards across the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It ensures that dioceses and religious orders adhere to high, transparent, and survivor-sensitive practices in protection and response.

The CJ (Loreto Sisters) English Province is a member of this service.
