Reading Galatians:  An exploration of Paul’s most polemical letter

The letter to the Galatians gives us insight into the life and tensions of an early Christian community. We will also ask what this has to say to us as church today.

All three events are led by Josette Zammit-Mangion CJ

These three events, though offered individually, can also stand as a single unit for those who want a deeper engagement with the Letters of Paul over the year. A discount of £30 will apply to those who book all three.

‘The water that I will give …’:

Exploring characteristics of the inner life

Ioan Ap Dewi OCDS & Ewa Bem CJ

5th – 7th March

In his encounters with people, such as the woman by the well, Jesus pointed to an inner reality that underpinned their relationship with him. The retreat will examine selected characteristics of the inner life, revealing its mystery, devotion to Jesus Christ and the attributes of the soul. It will draw on the works of St John of the Cross, William Williams (Pantycelyn) and Edith Stein. The focus will be on reflection and application, allowing time to enjoy the tranquillity of the Retreat Centre and its beautiful surroundings.  This retreat is not in silence, although you will have plenty of time for your own quiet prayer.

Ioan Ap Dewi, a native of North Wales, is a Carmelite linked to a secular community in Rock Ferry. He is interested in the interplay between Christian traditions and how writings from across traditional boundaries reflect and express individuals’ relationships with God.

Suggested Offering: £200

September

Nunc Dimittis: Letting Go with Grace?

A Retreat for Religious

Gemma Simmonds CJ

27th – 30th September

Suggested Offering: £280

At a moment in history where many are witnessing the diminishment and even ending of religious life as they have lived it, how can we move forward, trusting in God’s providence? This retreat, reflecting on Jesus’ encounter at the beginning of his earthly life with Simeon and Anna at the end of theirs, encourages us both to mourn and to let go, but also to experience endings as the birth of new possibilities.

Although this retreat will be mostly silent with plenty of time for quiet prayer and reflection, there will also be opportunities for conversation and socialising for those who wish. Daily Mass will also be available.

Gemma is a Sister of the Congregation of Jesus, a lecturer in Christian spirituality at the Margaret Beaufort Institute, Cambridge.
